Miro Quartet

The Music Room at Rosario was the setting for last night's (and tonight's) Orcas Island Chamber Music Festival's "Leaves of Gold" concert, featuring the Miro Quartet. Hailed by the New York Times as possessing “explosive vigor and technical finesse”, the Miró Quartet is one of America’s highest-profile chamber groups. What a treat! Go to Rosario Resort Web Site

Festival of Trees 2012

Rosario's 2nd Annual Festival of Trees is full swing in the Moran Mansion. Come check out the beautiful trees decorated by a variety of Orcas Island non-profits and give during this holiday season!

The first tree is by Orcas Center, our community center for the arts. http://orcascenter.org/
Continuing with our wonderful Festival of Trees non-profit participants, here is the Orcas Choral Society tree with music themed handmade ornaments! www.orcaschoralsociety.org
Kaleidoscope Day Care provides a safe, affordable, high-quality, consistent childcare and preschool while supporting Orcas Island families! The kids made the clay ornament frames for their pictures... great work! www.ourkaleidoscopekids.org/
The Orcas Fire and Rescue tree reminds us all to wear reflective clothing during these dark days (but there was a minute more of light today)! Thanks to all these great volunteers who give to our community! www.orcasfire.org/
Friends of Moran State Park is a community group organized to help support keeping the park a Washington Treasure. Washington State Parks celebrate their Centennial in 2013, partially thanks to Robert Moran! http://friendsofmoran.com/
And now for more trees featuring our Orcas Island children! Here is the tree from Orcas Montessori, offering a dynamic learning environment for preschoolers and kindergartners. www.orcasmontessori.org/
Next comes the tree decorated by The Funhouse Commons,a community center that fosters fun and learning with dozens of hands-on kid-friendly science exhibits, a computer lab, complete audio and video production studios, a library of educational films and documentaries, facilities for classes and meetings, clubs, and much more. Most importantly, The Funhouse Commons is a critical safety net for the youth of Orcas Island–and by extension their families. http://funhousecommons.org/
More hand-made decorations from Orcas Island Kids! Orcas Island Children's House is an early learning center serving Orcas Island families for more than 40 years. Children's House helps to preserve the sustainability of our unique island by providing families an education-oriented environment for their toddler- and preschool-aged children. www.oich.org
Mandy Rudolph’s Farm to Classroom Program is part of Orcas Island School’s Farm to Cafeteria Program. Their Rosario Festival of Trees entry is called “A few of our Favorite Things.” Improving the school lunch is only a part the program...every student from Kindergarten through 6th grade also spends a minimum of one hour a week in the Farm to Classroom project where they learn what good food is and how much better for their bodies it will be for the rest of their lives. They also work in our school garden where they turn the soil, harvest fennel and all kinds of herbs, raise popcorn, pumpkins, beans, strawberries and all kinds of lettuces, to name a few. www.orcasislandf2c.org/
The kid trees have been displayed, now for the animals! The Orcas Animal Protection Society promotes the humane care of animals and operates a modern, clean, visitor and animal friendly shelter. Just viewing their Festival of Trees display convinces us they are doing a great job! www.orcaspets.org/

End of Summer

End of summer is always entertaining with our marina staff. Tradition says you go in the drink on your last day of work. We're not sure why three dockhands are in the water with only one leaving. Also not sure why our Harbormaster Terry Jones was the only one to remain dry!

Indoor Pool Rebuild

We are happy to announce that our newly rebuilt indoor pool is now open! These photos show a bit of the process of replicating the pool's original historic tile design. We were very happy when our guest Marissa Price from Olympia was the first to swim in it (if you don't count our contractor Shawn who accidently fell in earlier in the day)!

Entrance Circle Garden

Rosario Resort's new entrance circle garden is looking beautiful. After our 80 year old chestnut tree died, we knew we needed to do something new, and the result is beautiful thanks to Orcas Island's own All Seasons Gardening!

Natural Light

The power went out for a few hours on Orcas Island last night, but Mother Nature provided quite a light show for diners in The Mansion Restaurant with a glorious sunset and rainbow. Note the outside lights remained on as they are still powered by the original DC generator.

Thea Foss

The Thea Foss made a stop at Rosario. Built as the yacht Infanta for actor John Barrymore Sr. (Drew's grandfather). The yacht was designed by Ted Geary and built as the yacht Infanta in 1930 by the Craig Shipbuilding Company of Long Beach, California. The Infanta spent World War II serving the U.S. Navy as the patrol vessel Amber. Foss Maritime purchased the THEA in 1950 and converted her back to a yacht.
