Here is another rare photo of the Sanwan at anchor in Cascade Bay on Orcas Island (c. 1917). It's also a great view of the "Roundhouse," a shot that can not be currently duplicated in a "Now and Then" shot because there is a Rosario Resort accommodations building blocking it from this angle.
Here a similar view of the roundhouse today. It was built by Robert Moran in 1914 as a getaway spot for his kids to learn domestic chores on their own. With domestic staff in the main mansion, it was a place for Nellie to learn to cook, wife Melissa to do canning of vegetables and son Malcolm had his own ceramic kiln and lathe.
