In 1916, Robert Moran built the 132 ft. yacht "Sanwan." It was built very close to where Rosario Resort's outdoor family pool is today. Moran's original intent was to sail the world, but when it was completed Moran said his "yacht building plans were a mistaken idea." It sat on Cascade Bay of Orcas Island for several years, then used by Moran's son Frank as a training ship in connection with his Moran School for Boys on Bainbridge Island. It was later leased to someone who ran it aground in Santa Barbara, ending it's short career. Here are some photos of the Sanwan from the archives:
